The Ford Figo - made in India
For has spent a few bob – around £300 million – expanding its car making facilities in India at Chennai to make the plant capable of producing 200,000 cars a year which, as Alan Mullaly, Ford’s CEO said, does show how serious Ford are about the Indian market. The Figo – which is apparently colloquial Italian for ‘Cool’ – shares Ford’s small car platform, which means that under the skin it’s a Fiesta. It looks like a Ford too, with the usual ford ‘Kinetic’ design cues written all over it.
Land Rover sales hit a new record as UK car manufacturing rises
Land Rover has had its best ever sales month in February as sales at JLR hit 32,257, and the UK car industry saw a 23.5 per cent rise in production. Last week we reported on the doom and gloom in car manufacturing and sales in Europe with sales of mainstream cars falling away and troubled economies – like Italy and France – recording drops of 20 per cent in sales during February. Fortunately, the same isn’t happening in the UK.

It’s quite tough to know how to describe the 2013 Volvo V30 we’ve got on video out testing in Europe. And not just because it’s covered in camouflage. We’re pretty sure that what we have is a five-door version of the next Volvo C30, but does that make the V30 a proper estate, or is it just a five-door hatch?
